Compassion Mass Awards $11,000 for Capacity Building
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010Great Barrington, Mass. – The Nutrition Center is pleased to announce the award of an $11,000 grant through the Compassion Massachusetts Berkshire Initiative. The grant is awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ACF Communities Empowering Youth Demonstration Program to the University of Massachusetts, Donahue Institute in partnership with the New England Network for Child, Youth and Family Services and the Berkshire Youth Development Project to develop organizational capacity and sustainability of faith-based and community organizations (FBCO’s) that serve at-risk youth and their families.
Berkshire County was identified as one of two regions in Massachusetts with high-risk indicators for youth and a largely rural community that faces challenges in developing a comprehensive county-wide approach that supports positive youth development and family supports.
The Compassion Massachusetts grant will support capacity building activities at The Nutrition Center in five critical areas of development: Leadership (board and professional staff development and training), Organizational Development, Program Development, Revenue Creation, and Community Engagement.
“The Compassion Massachusetts grant will allow us to expand our reach in the community and our increase our capabilities to help children who are at risk of developing health problems owing to obesity, eating disorders, and even malnutrition,” said Peter Stanton, The Nutrition Center Director. He added, “this grant will support us in fulfilling our mission.”
